Politically correct Christmas cards: is it right to get rid of our roots?

Never like this year the ‘politically correct’ has had its way over Christmas cards that ordinary people and influential people exchanged for the season.

But it seems that the secret code for this season was to get as unreligious as possible. Basically, it is like Christmas wasn’t a Christian even but just something that Coca Cola invented. It seems like it is convenient or not recommeded to expose it if you believe in something. But why is that? And more importantly, why should it be like that?

The European Union Christmas card looks like a sort of Independence day poster with no referral the Nativity whilst the US President’s depicts his dog by the fireplace. Is it Christmas or what?! Why should we get rid of our roots?

Wouldn’t it be probably better to exchange two type of cards: a religiuos one for the believers and a secular one for those who don’t?

And I don’t buy the justifications that this way we do not offend those that have other creeds.

I’m not offended if anyone follows his/her faith, I just don’t see why I should get rid of mine!

  1. Who is asking you to get rid of your faith? Yes, many people (of all faiths and no faith) celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday, but isn’t that a good way to share the Christian message?
As for the US President and European Union, sending out religious cards, that would be entirely inappropriate given that they are coming from governments where the separation of church and state are mandated.
I don’t celebrate Christmas as a religious event but neither do I succumb to the commercial feeding-frenzy. Sure rant about the over-commercialization of Christmas, but no need to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I do agree with you because Christmas has a very broad meaning and ‘audience’.
What I find sad, though, is that a more and more people who believe in the religious message of Christmas continue to celebrate it only as a secular holiday just because of the ‘politically correct’ fashion.
To me is like not eating meat, to not offend the vegetarian :)
    Cheers!

  3. I always believe in staying true to my faith and present Christmas as it is. After all, Christmas came from Christian tradition, the birth of Christ. To be able to respect other faith, I must start with my own. Diluting and toning down my faith does not make me more respectful to others.
